Ramon Klein Geltink PhD
Assistant Professor
Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
University of British Columbia, Vancouver
Dr. Klein Geltink completed his PhD in Molecular Biology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital / Erasmus University and his postdoctoral training in immunometabolism at the Max Planck Institute for Immunobiology and Epigenetics.
Research in the Dr. Klein Geltink lab focusses on metabolic regulation of immune cell function, with a particular interest in mechanisms of nutrient sensing in immune cells. His group uses molecular biology, immunological techniques, stable isotope tracing, and metabolomics to further our understanding on what is needed for a protective immune response, and how metabolic dysfunction leads to immune-related pathologies. The overall goal of this research program is to develop therapeutic strategies for immunomodulation to enhance immune cell function in cellular therapies of cancer, and to dampen the immune response in autoimmune diseases.
By closely collaborating with Clinicians and Clinician scientists at BCCHR, Dr. Klein Geltink aims to apply the findings to design better treatments for children with immune related diseases.
