The Bill and Marilyn Webber Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes extraordinary members of the UBC Faculty of Medicine who have had sustained distinguished careers at UBC in the areas of research, teaching and/or service.
The 2025 recipient Paul Keown received his award at a ceremony held at the UBC Golf Course on Tuesday October 14.
A renowned clinician-scientist, immunologist and academic leader, Paul’s career exemplifies sustained scholarly excellence of the highest order. His career has shaped the field of transplantation in Canada and beyond. He trained in medicine, immunobiology, and transplantation at the Universities of Manchester, Paris, and Western Ontario, earned research doctorates in Medicine and Science from Manchester, and later completed an MBA at Simon Fraser University.

After moving to Vancouver with his young family in 1987, he joined the University of British Columbia and Vancouver General Hospital, where he served as Head of Nephrology, Director of Immune Sciences, and Executive Director of BC Transplant. He also led the Canadian Society of Transplantation as its President.
